The tragic realities of unchecked domestic captivity expose vulnerable foster children to emotional abuse, severe physical abuse, and the ongoing threat of sexual abuse, causing damage and personal injury that lasts a lifetime. According to a report written by Morrissey Walsh from WGAL news, these devastating consequences are seen by the recent arrest of three family members, 31-year-old Ashley Cardona, 53-year-old Lori Cardona, and 29-year-old Michael Cardona, all accused of subjecting two young children to unlivable conditions that medical experts have officially classified as child torture. After a two-year investigation led by District Attorney Tim Barker, authorities found that a 6-year-old boy was locked inside a makeshift, feces-filled “crib cage” held together by ratchet straps, zip ties, and a leash, while a 5-year-old girl was forcefully confined to a car seat for up to 23 hours a day. Although medical professionals flagged Ashley Cardona’s severe psychiatric inability to care for her children as early as 2019, the victims suffered in total isolation inside an Etters, PA home until their emergency removal in March 2024, suffering severe malnourishment, developmental delays, and dental decay. Law enforcement officially booked the mother, grandmother, and uncle in February 2026 on a long list of felony charges including aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and endangering the welfare of children.
