Severe crimes leave victims and their families dealing with the devastating aftermath of sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, personal injury, and permanent damage. According to an article written by Christine Dempsey and Lisa Backus from Hearst Connecticut Media, a 38-year-old registered sex offender named was arrested in Willimantic, Connecticut, while fleeing the home where a missing visiting nurse was discovered dead in the basement. The sex offender, whose criminal history included a 2007 conviction for first-degree sexual assault, was initially held on a $1 million bond for a probation violation along with minor drug and larceny charges after being caught with a knife, a crack pipe, and a tampered GPS monitor. Police initiated a welfare check when the nurse failed to show up for her appointments, the first of which was scheduled at the offender’s residence. Willimantic Police Chief Paul M. Hussey described the homicide scene as one of the most trouble he has encountered in his nearly 30-year career, and while the sexual offender has not yet been formally charged with murder, Connecticut State Police’s Eastern State Major Crime detectives have taken over the active investigation.
