Custody battles often shed light on devastating allegations of sexual abuse, physical abuse, personal injury, and emotional abuse that cause irreversible damage. According to this article written by Frank Parlato, Connecticut Superior Court Judge Thomas J. O’Neill issued a one-year restraining order against a mother, preventing her from seeing her three teenage children despite their very own wishes to stay in her care. The teens had recently escaped custody of their father, Christopher Ambrose, alleging years of severe trauma, coercive control, and abuse, but the court instead favored Ambrose’s claims that Riordan was engaging in parental alienation. Representing herself pro se because she allegedly had drained her finances and inheritance, the mother was heavily disadvantaged in court against Ambrose’s attorney, Alexander Cuda. Judge O’Neill dismissed testimonies from the teenagers, excluded the mother’s evidence, and ignored an urgent warning letter from noted psychiatrist Dr. Bandy X. Lee, who corroborated the children’s reports and characterized her as a dangerous and violent abuser. Unfortunately, as a result, the traumatized children (who had previously exhibited signs of severe depression, self-harm, and substance abuse while forced to live in their father’s care after a heavily contested 2020 custody transfer) are now displaced and in hiding as their father tries to force their return.
